Gather all the chicks and keep them away from the naughty cats!
What is it: A cute pathfinding/sliding game. You're the mother hen, trying to keep your chicks safe, avoiding the other animals. The chicks stay in place, while the hen, and any other big animals in the level, slide all together in one of the directions. The cat will eat any chicks (or hens) it encounters in its path, the pig won't harm you, but it may squash the chicks, while the dog will fight the cat and protect the chicks. Other mechanics are water that animals can drown in, one-pass trapdoors, buttons and raising platforms that can move animals between floors, and tunnels that may lead to secret eggs. Unlike the similarly themed Pop And Chicks, this doesn't have a move counter.
Overall, the game is cute (for kids) and easy enough, but a bit buggy and basic. Elevator platforms are the worst, quite often I would see it rise up through an animal, leaving it on the lower floor. The chicks would sometimes not fit on the tile and the game would shake them around like crazy. The UI has hard to read grey over grey text. No undo. No profiles or progress reset. It is possible to jump off the bridge in the last level select screen, which breaks the game. The level select always goes back to the start, and switching chapters involves a long animation. After finishing a level there's no chance to replay it, in case you didn't get all the chicks. On the level select perfected levels are green and imperfect levels are a very similar looking blue.
How hard is it: Easy to moderate, the game becomes non-trivial quite early, but it never gets too hard.
How long is it: 50 levels, which can be finished in an hour.
Level design: Basic, but decent.
Quality: Decent levels, basic progress achievements. A bit buggy. No controls mapping, no undo, no level skipping,
Worth the price: Wait for a discount.
Most positive aspect for me: Interesting mechanics.
Most negative aspect for me: No undo. |
