crash problems: might TPP require SSE 4.1?
EDIT4: Please note that by now Konami has released a beta patch fixing the problem for now. Until this beta patch turns into an automatic patch for the final game you can download it by right-clicking the game in your library, navigating to the apropriate tab and selecting the beta version from the drop down menu. This will be far better than using the SSE emulator from Intel performance-wise.
I'll leave the former post here for reference, but it's essentially obsolete since the problem has been identified by Konami by now.
---------
Just a quick idea about the crash issues: Maybe the game requires SSE 4.1 or even 4.2?
There are loads of crash reports for AMD Phenom CPUs, but none for AMD FX CPUs. FX models support SSE 4.1 and 4.2, but Phenom (and older) don't.
Has anyone succeeded at running this game on a CPU NOT supporting SSE 4.1? That would render my theory invalid.
I have a FX CPU and I'm still downloading, so I can't test this.
EDIT: Also if you are affected and have such a CPU you could try the workaround which some used for the Oculus Rift when their runtime once was accidentally compiled in a way to require SSE 4.1, though this might not help if 4.2 is needed.

EDIT2: I don't know whether this works with a steam game at all, since the Intel file needs to invoke the game executable.
EDIT3: Users have confirmed that this works by copying the Intel "SSE emulator" to the same directory as the game executable and using it as described on reddit.
Take note of the following two points though:
- It apparently doesn't work on Windows 10.
- It does affect performance significantly. So this will primarily serve as a way to confirm, that the problem is SSE 4.1. For a good gameplay experience you might still want to wait for a patch removing the SSE 4.1 requirement. |
