OpenAL provides capabilities for playing audio in a virtual 3D environment. Distance attenuation, doppler shift, and directional sound emitters are among the features handled by the API. More advanced effects, including air absorption, occlusion, and environmental reverb, are
available through the EFX extension. It also facilitates streaming audio, multi-channel buffers, and audio capture.
OpenAL(Open Audio Library)是自由软件界的跨平台音效API。OpenAL最初是由Loki Software所开发,是为了将Windows商业游戏移植到Linux上,Loki倒闭以后,这个项目由自由软件/开放源始码社群继续维护。
OpenAL主要的功能是在来源物体、音效缓冲和收听者中编码。来源物体包含一个指向缓冲区的指标、声音的速度、位置和方向,以及声音强度。收听者物体包含收听者的速度、位置和方向,以及全部声音的整体增益。缓冲里包含8或16位元、单声道或立体声PCM格式的音效资料,表现引擎进行所有必要的计算,如距离衰减、都普勒效应等。
