《奇迹时代3》游戏中，玩家仍然会探索充满各种魔幻怪兽、经历的巨大地图，面对多达7个竞争对手王国，争夺资源和土地。玩家可以从精灵、矮人、龙人、人类、兽人、地精这几个种族选择首发种族，并选择相应的领袖职业（类似龙与地下城，包括无畏技师、神官、战争领主、盗贼、术士、德鲁伊），还能通过多种技能树来打造你的领袖和英雄。最后还可以吸收其他种族进入自己的国王。
《奇迹时代3》拥有一个由山脉到岩洞到平原等各种地形组成的巨大世界，还有多种怪兽等你来挑战。在充满支线任务的主线战役中，你还可以从两个派系中选择其一，来开始你的伟大冒险。
当然，少不了的还有多人游戏模式，让你与其他玩家一决高下，多人模式中拥有地图编辑器，你可以用来创造多种多样的Mod和自定义地形。游戏工作室还将一个全新的君王拓展系统（Lord development system）引入《奇迹时代3》，玩家可以通过多种技能树来打造你的英雄。
