《虚幻竞技场2007》（Unreal Tournament 2007）是以目前业界最先进的新一代Unreal 3.0 Engine引擎，画面自然会有突飞猛进的震撼，而且因为游戏进化幅度太大了，所以跳过了2005、2006的年份，直接以《虚幻竞技场2007》来命名，由此可见这款游戏超级进化威力。而进化不光只有超震撼的游戏画面表现，在游戏关卡的安排、对战内容的强化、各种武器的设计、游戏平衡度的调整等方面都费尽心力，希望能作出让老玩家满意、新玩家惊艳的最新作品。
新一代Unreal 3.0 Engine引擎威力强悍，甚至能让游戏画面同时呈现数百万个多边形，以及相当复杂的光影效果、物理运算等特性，所以营造出来的游戏画面非常惊人，如目前公布的画面，身穿军方的黑人不但五官表情神似真人，而且连上的皮肤毛孔、皱纹甚至是胡渣都是跟跟分明，连帽子也有编织纹路的效果。而在机械的3D模组制作上也营造出生锈、斑剥的金属厚重感觉，不装饰人物身上的金属装甲、各种枪械与交通工具的金属质感，以及复杂的大环境光影投射技术、凹凸贴图效果...等，都让虚幻竞技场2007的游戏画面让人惊讶不已。
除了画面上的改良外，本作也将会有很多新的游戏系统，以及更聪明的电脑AI设计，游戏制作小组尝试给游戏中的机器人更为人性化的性格特征。在单人游戏中玩家仍然是一个小队队长，可以率领作战小队进行战斗，游戏中的每个队员都有独特的电脑AI，队员彼此之间的互动成分将会更高，甚至还会以火力掩护、包抄攻击...等战术进行作战，或是提醒玩家有敌人接近...等，让游戏更有亲临战场的紧张感。
